How Healthy Do You Want to Be?

Healthy Individuals

Health is more than the absence of disease. Healthy people:

  • Feel vital and more energetic.
  • Have good social relationships.
  • Experience a sense of control over their living conditions.
  • Are able to do things they enjoy.
  • Have a sense of purpose in life.
  • Feel connected to their community.

One major factor contributing to good health is physical activity. By putting your body in motion for 30 - 60 minutes a day, you can reap health benefits, have fun and meet new people. Years ago, anything less than strenuous exercise was seen as a waste of time. But newer research shows that you can get many benefits from regular, moderate physical activity – as little as 10 minutes, 3 times a day.

Physical activity affects you from the inside out. Some changes are gradual. Others happen right away. Here’s a look at both the immediate and longer-term benefits you can expect when you’re active.
