ActNow BC
Research has shown that inactivity, poor nutrition, weight problems, tobacco use and unhealthy choices in pregnancy are the key risk factors contributing to the main chronic disease categories in BC.

ActNow BC is a cross-government health promotion initiative that seeks to improve the health of British Columbians by taking steps to address common risk factors and reduce chronic disease. ActNow BC supports schools, employers, local governments and communities to develop and promote programs that make healthy choices the easy choices for all British Columbians.

To coincide with the XXI Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010, ActNow BC has set a number of goals.  These include:
•    Increasing the number of physically active people in the province by 20 per cent.
•    Increasing the percentage of adults who eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables daily by 20 per cent.
•    Reducing by 20 per cent the number of BC adults who are overweight.
•    Reducing tobacco use by 10 per cent.
•    Doubling the number of women who receive counselling about the risks of alcohol and tobacco use during pregnancy.
